After a summer of stadium tours and music festivals, Rhode Island concertgoers reluctantly – or happily, depending on your heat tolerance – move indoors for a fall music season that’s ripe with options.
Our top choices span genres and locations across New England’s musical sweet spot. Check out these shows around the state:
Al Copley Quintet, Oct. 3, 8 p.m., Knickerbocker Café (knickmusic.com), Westerly. Kick the weekend off with the gifted pianist and co-founder of Roomful of Blues. His repertoire careens effortlessly from boogie-woogie to swing, keeping the room crackling with energy. Tickets are $20.
Violent Femmes, Oct. 10, 8 p.m., The Strand (thestrandri.com), Providence. “Blister in the Sun” and “Gone Daddy Gone” might have coalesced this folk punk band’s fan base in the 1980s, but their alternative sound and blistering lyrics have kept them popular and relevant ever since. Tickets start at $50.
America, Oct. 18, 7 p.m., Providence Performing Arts Center (ppacri.org), Providence. Fans never get tired of this Grammy Award-winning band’s transcendent rock vibe. The “Encore 2025” tour celebrates 55 years of tunes like “A Horse with No Name” and “Ventura Highway.” Tickets start at $64.75.
Goose performs in August 2025 in Iowa City, Iowa. The band will be on stage at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence on Dec. 12 and 13.
Dream Theater, Oct. 22, 8 p.m., Vets Auditorium (thevetsri.com), Providence. The “Parasomnia” tour showcases the metal band’s trailblazing spirit after Rolling Stone magazine included their debut album on its list of the top 100 greatest metal albums of all time. The band is promoting its 16th album with characteristic energy. Tickets start at $91.
Acoustic Alchemy, Nov. 6, 8 p.m., Greenwich Odeum (greenwichodeum.com), East Greenwich. After a 14-year hiatus, the band released “33⅓” – an eclectic blend of jazz, blues, Caribbean rhythms, Eastern sounds and classical forms – and took to the road. Those who love the band’s blend of nylon and steel guitar will be rewarded for the wait. Tickets are $35.
Amazing Royal Crowns, Nov. 22, 7 p.m., The Met (themetri.com), Pawtucket. The rockabilly punk rock masters – and Rhode Island natives – play their first headlining show in New England in 24 years. Their hot and fast sound is richly retro and explosively energetic. Tickets for the all-ages show start at $25.
McKinley James, Dec. 7, 6 p.m., Alchemy (alchemyri.net), Providence. Described as “equal parts old soul and modern man,” the 22-year-old James coaxes his own spin on classic rock, soul and R&B sounds from his electric guitar. The themes he sings of, however, are anything but retro. Tickets are $17.31.
Goose, Dec. 12 and 13, 7:30 p.m., Amica Mutual Pavilion (amicamutualpavilion.com), Providence. The indie rockers promise to light up The AMP with material from their latest album “Chain Yer Dragon,” plus the “lived in” sound they cultivated and improv performance skills that audiences love. Tickets start at $64 and are available online only.
