MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Monday for the newly designated Historic Downtown Entertainment District in Madison.
The ribbon-cutting took place at Garner St. Alley, and city officials said the event marked a milestone in efforts to bring more traffic to the heart of the city.
“Today marks a commitment to our downtown’s future,” said Mayor Ranae Bartlett. “Establishing an entertainment district creates new opportunities for people to gather, support local businesses, and experience the unique charm that defines Historic Downtown Madison. This is an exciting step toward a more vibrant city center.”

Main Street Madison had a role in advancing the entertainment district efforts by working with merchants, property owners, and city officials.
“This is a milestone moment for our downtown, and we’re thrilled to see it come to life,” said Jen DeLessio, Executive Director of Main Street Madison Alabama. “Today’s celebration shows just how much momentum we have moving forward.”
Madison officials hope the downtown area can become a destination for residents and visitors. Upcoming events in Madison include the Polar Express Christmas Tree Trail and Waasail Festival.
