Sheinelle opened up about the interaction on the May 5 taping of the Today show.

The Today show host worked the 2026 Met Gala on May 4 and had the chance to interview the hottest celebrities on the red carpet. But Sheinelle got the ultimate surprise when Rihanna approached her. During the interaction, the singer told Sheinelle how amazing she is as a woman of color in the media industry.
“You deserve to be poured into,” Rihanna told Sheinelle in a clip posted on Today’s official Instagram. “And you’re beautiful, you’re a Black journalist. I respect you. I love you for this. And by the way, your outfit is f****** fire.”
As the video of Rihanna and Sheinelle’s conversation circulated on social media, fans couldn’t help but adore it.

Sheinelle talked about the interaction during the May 5 taping of Today With Jenna and Sheinelle—including what the interaction was like away from the cameras.
“Rihanna’s music has been there for me in so many moments,” she said in a video posted on YouTube. “When I saw her, I wanted to tell her that. She was busy pouring back into me … there are days that are really crappy and days that are amazing. It was beautiful.”
