Riley Keogh had a clever way of evading the Cannes Film Festival’s “no nudity” rule when she stepped out on the red carpet on May 14.
The actress attended the premiere of Histoires Parallèles (Parallel Tales) in a sheer blush ensemble from Chanel that almost broke the festival’s new dress code rules. Keough, 36, was dressed in a two-piece with a loose, entirely sheer button-up top and matching skirt with embellished detailing.

Underneath the transparent look, the Rosebush Pruning actress wore lingerie that may have prevented her from breaking the “no naked dressing” rule that first surfaced at the festival last year.
Riley Keough attends the “Histoires Parallèles (Parallel Tales)” screening during the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals on May 14, 2026 in Cannes, France.
“This year, the Cannes Film Festival has made explicit in its charter certain rules that have long been in effect,” the festival said in a statement last year. “The aim is not to regulate attire per se, but to prohibit full nudity on the red carpet, in accordance with the institutional framework of the event and French law.”
The uptick in bold displays of skin on the red carpet in recent years prompted the festival to crack down on the dress code in 2025, and that rule carried over into the 2026 event. For screenings at Cannes’ Grand Théâtre Lumière, guests are required to wear “evening wear,” which Cannes Film Festival defines as a long dress or tuxedo. A cocktail dress is also acceptable.
Other acceptable outfits for Cannes screenings include “a dark-colored pantsuit, a dressy top with black pants [and] a black or navy-blue suit with bow-tie or dark-colored tie,” per the festival’s FAQ page. “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival,” the festival’s page reads, effectively reinforcing its policy from the year prior.
Keough is at Cannes to celebrate her movie Butterfly Jam, which was directed by Kantemir Balagov. She stars alongside Barry Keoghan, Harry Melling and newcomer Talha Akdogan. They play members of the Circassian community in New Jersey.
