Former Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne died aged 76 in July this year just over two weeks after his Back To The Beginning farewell concert where he was reunited with his bandmates barely two miles from where they first played together more than 50 years ago.

The music star, who known as the Prince of Darkness, had suffered with a string of health issues having faced multiple surgeries following a fall in February 2019.

Osbourne, who had also been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, died of a reported heart attack on July 22.

Following his death, fans laid flowers at the Black Sabbath Bench in Broad Street in Birmingham, and hundreds paid their respects during a cortege procession on July 30.

His wife Sharon, and their three children, Aimee, Kelly and Jack, attended the procession and laid pink roses after inspecting tributes, with members of the crowd shouting “we love you Ozzy”.

Osbourne, who had a successful solo career, found a new legion of fans when he appeared in the 2000s reality TV series The Osbournes, starring alongside Sharon and their two youngest children.

Earlier this month the death of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele shocked the world.

Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of the famous filmmaker, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after Rob, 78, and Michele were found dead from apparent stab wounds in their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles.

The medical examiner’s initial findings determined the manner of death to be “homicide” and showed the couple died of “multiple sharp force injuries”.

A group of the Reiners’ friends, including actors Billy Crystal, Albert Brooks, Martin Short and Larry David, as well as director Barry Levinson, released a statement describing them as “a special force together – dynamic, unselfish and inspiring”.

Reiner was one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood and his work includes some of the most memorable films of the 1980s and 1990s, including This Is Spinal Tap, A Few Good Men, When Harry Met Sally and The Princess Bride.

– David Lynch

Prolific director David Lynch, who was known for the surreal TV series Twin Peaks and films such as Eraserhead and Blue Velvet, died at the age of 78 in January.

During his career Lynch had been Oscar-nominated four times, including two nods for The Elephant Man (1980) for directing and adapted screenplay, and two more directing nominations for Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive.

In 2019 he received an honorary Academy Award, which recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry but have not won an Oscar.

Earlier this year he posthumously received the 2025 Writers Guild Laurel Award for screenwriting achievement.

Author Dame Jilly Cooper died in hospital on October 5 at the age of 88.

An inquest in November heard she had sustained a fatal head injury during a fall at her Gloucestershire home.

Dame Jilly was known for her steamy fiction focusing on scandal and adultery in upper class society and her work Rivals was recently adapted into a hit television series by Disney+ starring David Tennant, Aidan Turner, Danny Dyer and Katherine Parkinson.

While visiting the Rivals set, Britain’s Queen expressed her sadness to Dame Jilly’s son, Felix Cooper, and daughter Emily Tarrant and said: “She was such a big part of my life for such a long time. We all miss her so much.”

James Lee Williams, who won the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK performing under their drag name The Vivienne, died at the age of 32 in January.

Shortly after their death friends and fans gathered to pay their respects at St George’s Hall in Liverpool which was lit up in green in a nod to the drag queen’s role playing the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard Of Oz musical.

A coroner ruled the performer’s death was from misadventure after they suffered a cardio respiratory arrest after taking ketamine.

Although the performer had struggled with drugs in the past, Williams’ family told the hearing they should not be remembered for their use of ketamine and that drugs did not define the person they were.

In February they were honoured with a posthumous icon award at the inaugural Metro Pride Awards.
