“Fuck. That!” actor and vehement Trump critic Robert De Niro said in a new video promoting the “No Kings” protests that multiple progressive groups are organizing in Washington, D.C., and across America on Oct. 18, and which GOP leaders have slammed as “Hate America” rallies.
De Niro, speaking in a clip shared by the Indivisible Project, drew parallels to America’s founding struggle against monarchy by noting how “the original ‘No Kings’ protest was 250 years ago” when Americans decided “they didn’t want to live under the rule of King George III,” and “declared their independence and fought a bloody war for democracy.”
The Oscar winner continued: “We’ve had two and a half centuries of democracy since then. Often challenging, sometimes messy, always essential. And we fought in two world wars to preserve it.”
“Now, we have a would-be king who wants to take it away. King Donald I,” he added.
“Fuck. That!” said De Niro.
“We are rising up again. This time, nonviolently raising our voices to declare ‘no kings,’” he said, concluding: “We’re all in this together, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
