He has tackled the worlds biggest crocs, runs a famous zoo with his family, hosts a bunch of celebrities in the South African jungle on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, won the mirrorball trophy on US Dancing with the Stars, took his dancing shoes on tour and recently announced his hosting role on spin-off Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.
Is there anything Robert Irwin hasn’t done? Yes, star in his own movie. Until now, apparently.
The Aussie Wildlife Warrior has hinted to fans that he’s about to make his big screen debut by posting a film trailer online.
“Something epic is coming. I’m so excited to finally share what I’ve been working on… things are about to get wild,” he captioned the sneak peek.
The clip shows Robert dressed in his khakis running through the wilderness with bursts of nature and wildlife.
While we’re given very little details about the upcoming film, we have a title (Max Impact) and a promise to learn more through a more detailed trailer yet to come (May 26).
It was just enough information to get fans excited over the 22-year-old’s big screen debut.
“Aghhhhh so excited to see more! Let’s goooo,” one excited fan wrote on Instagram.
“WHAAAT this looks epic!” another keen follower wrote.
And others agreed that it was about time we saw Robert on the big screen: “OK I have been waiting for you to be in a movie! Really hope that’s what this is!”
Robert has taken on some minor film projects in his career, including voicing characters in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water in 2015 and Zootopia 2 most recently. He also made a small cameo in Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove in 2010. Max Impact will be his first starring role on the big screen.
Just like his late old man, Robert likes to live his life on the edge. Earlier this week, he shared details about the terrifying moment he was death-rolled by a 317kg croc.
“I named this crocodile Jimmy Fallon, like, years ago, and he’s now what we call a boss croc,” he revealed during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
“We research crocodiles in the wild to better conserve them, right? The way you do that — my dad came up with this — is you actually have to jump on them, right?” Robert said, referring to his late father, Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin.
“So I jumped on the back of Jimmy Fallon and, get this … he death-rolled me,” he continued. “I jumped onto him. I kid you not – 14 foot [4.2 metres] of crocodile, big croc, death rolls me.”
“So I’m stuck underneath him with my arm hanging out. I’ve got like, probably, I don’t know, maybe 700 pounds [317kg] on top of me and I’m just like, ‘What do I do?’”
Luckily, the croc eventually “rolled back the other way” and Robert was able to set himself free.
