THE GAME: Facing major-league hitters again after an outing on the minor-league fields last week, Roki Sasaki turned in an uneven 3⅓ innings as the Dodgers beat the Kansas City Royals, 10-4, in a Cactus League game on Tuesday night at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Ariz.
PITCHING REPORT: Sasaki retired seven of the first nine batters he faced, three on strikeouts. But he lost command in the third inning and walked the bases loaded. He re-entered the game in the fourth inning, struck out two batters but gave up a two-run home run to Elias Diaz. When he fell behind 3-and-0 to the Royals leadoff man Jonathan India, Manager Dave Roberts paid a visit to the mound with a trainer. Sasaki stayed in and got an inning-ending ground out. He went back out to start the fifth inning and gave up a leadoff double then was done for the night after 71 pitches. Sasaki’s spring ERA – in Cactus League games only – is 13.50. … Nick Robertson replaced Sasaki with the bases loaded and one out in the third. He struck out Nick Loftin and Josh Rojas to escape. … Tanner Scott gave up two singles in his inning but struck out two and stranded both runners. … Alex Vesia gave up his first run of the spring on two singles wrapped around a stolen base. He has allowed just three hits to 23 batters faced.
HITTING REPORT: Dalton Rushing hit a solo home run, his third of the spring. … Andy Pages drove in two runs with a single. … Hyeseong Kim was on base three times with a single, a hit by pitch and catcher’s interference. He also stole his fifth base of the spring. … Kyle Tucker was 1 for 3 with a double. He is 4 for 18 this spring. … Ryan Fitzgerald had an RBI double. … Jack Suwinski hit his second home run in as many games with the Dodgers. It came in the top of the ninth inning and broke a 4-4 tie. Seby Zavala also hit a grand slam in the Dodgers’ six-run ninth.
