“Some people seek their fortune on the turn of a coin,” sings Mick Jagger, who will be 83 in July. Not him. “It’s in the stars, it’s our destiny.” The chorus has the sort of earworm tune – and lyrics – that Coldplay’s Chris Martin might come up with. Not a criticism, but we’re miles from the scuzzy Stones of Tumbling Dice or Brown Sugar.
As well as releasing the track, the Stones have confirmed details of Foreign Tongues, out on July 10. The album, like its 2023 predecessor, Hackney Diamonds, has been produced by Andrew Watt, who is also behind Paul McCartney’s comeback album. The 14-track album will feature guest spots from McCartney, Steve Winwood, Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and, tantalisingly, Robert Smith from The Cure.
