Ronald Biggs, the extraordinarily larger than life Great Train Robber turned media celebrity, will be the subject of a six-episode bio crime drama, “Biggs – the ‘Biggest’ Thief of the Century,” produced by João Daniel Tikhomiroff’s Mixer Films (“The Business,” “Besouro”), one of Brazil’s most important production companies.
To make it, Mixer is teaming with top Brazilian creative talent: director Fabio Mendonça, who helmed Prime Video’s “New Bandits,” and Elena Soarez (“The House of Sand”), who will serve as head writer.
Produced by João Daniel Tikhomiroff, with Michel Tikhomiroff serving as creative executive producer, “Biggs” is set between the early 1970s and the mid-1980s. It follows Biggs’
transformation from one of Britain’s most wanted criminals – Biggs escaped from Wandsworth Prison in 1965, having been sentenced to 30 years for his part in the 1963 Royal Mail train heist – into an unlikely celebrity in Rio de Janeiro. There, as Mixer’s series will explain, fame becomes both his shield and his livelihood.
“Against the backdrop of Brazil’s military dictatorship and cultural liberalization, ‘Biggs’ blends crime, biography and dark humor to explore identity, performance and the cost of living behind a persona,” João Daniel Tikhomiroff told Variety.
“Biggs became a kind of society personality. His son became a Brazilian superstar singer. It’s a fantastic script, a funny story with incredible atmosphere,” he added.
“O Negocioa,” “Olhar Indiscreto,” “Besouro.”
Currently in development, “Biggs” will be brought onto the market at this week’s Content Americas, where João Daniel Tikhomiroff is seeking financing and co-production partners. Mixer has a complete Bible, and scripts for all episodes, Tikhomiroff said.
