The British Royal Family has long projected an image of dignity, tradition and restraint, but a recent Reddit post is offering a very different glimpse behind the scenes. A former employee of the Royal Family recently held an anonymous question-and-answer session on Reddit, where she spoke openly about her experience serving the monarchy. The post quickly went viral, drawing attention for its blunt tone and unfiltered claims.
The woman chose not to reveal her identity but shared proof of her employment with “The Firm” directly with moderators of the Royals Gossip subreddit, who confirmed that she had indeed worked for the Royal Family.
Working For The Royal Household
According to her post, the former staffer worked for the Royal Family for around four years, with her employment ending roughly three to four years ago. While she declined to disclose her exact role to avoid being identified, she said she worked in the “food branch” of the household.
She also revealed that during the COVID-19 period, she was temporarily allowed to assist in housekeeping duties. “During Covid, I was allowed to work temporarily in housekeeping as well, which was interesting,” she wrote, adding that it gave her broader exposure to how the household functioned on a daily basis.
It is important to note that News18 was unable to verify the claims.
How Senior Royals Treated Staff
The ex-employee said she interacted most frequently with Queen Elizabeth II, whom she described as “nice, polite” and always willing to engage in conversation, even if it felt awkward at times. Her interactions with other royals were more limited and usually took place during events or travel.
She also addressed long-standing rumours about King Charles III, confirming that stories about his exacting standards were accurate. “All the rumours about his level of demands are true,” she wrote, claiming that shoe laces were pressed, clothes laid out precisely, toothpaste squeezed for his toothbrush and even baths run according to preference. She described Queen Camilla as “harmless enough” but “not personable” and “quite awkward”.
According to her, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were consistently polite and friendly towards staff.
‘Incredibly Horrible’: Claims Against Prince Andrew
Her strongest criticism was reserved for Prince Andrew. The former staffer described him as “incredibly horrible and abusive to staff”, alleging that he was rude, spent much of his time watching television and made inappropriate remarks to young housemaids.
She further claimed that complaints against him were rarely addressed properly. “Nothing was ever done about this, and usually, if anyone made a complaint, it was dealt with by pushing out the complaining staff member,” she wrote. When asked directly whether reports of him yelling at staff were true, she replied, “Yes, pretty much,” adding elsewhere, “Beyond rude doesn’t even cover it.”
Prince Andrew was stripped of his royal titles following the fallout from his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a controversy that continues to shadow his public image.
The Reddit thread has since sparked widespread discussion online, with many users debating palace culture and the power dynamics faced by those working behind closed royal doors.
