Royal Family’s newest members join William and Kate for debut at Easter service

Royals arrive for Easter Sunday service St George’s Chapel

The Royal Family had two new faces among its ranks as they gathered for the traditional Easter Sunday service today. Senior members of the Firm, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, joined the King and Queen at the Easter Matins service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle this morning.

Others included Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, as well as Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh and his son James, the Earl of Wessex. Attending, like he has done many in the past, was Anne’s son Peter Phillips, along with his two daughters, Savannah, 15, and Isla 14.

However, accompanying him for the first time at the ceremony was his wife-to-be, Harriet Sperling and her 15-year-old daughter, Georgina.

Peter and Harriet, elegant in a sky blue spotted peplum jacket and skirt with a Jane Taylor hat and Kiki McDonough earrings, walked to St George’s Chapel with the rest of the royals, including William and Kate. Once the service was over, the couple walked back up the hill to the castle hand-in-hand alongside their daughters.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Peter, the King’s oldest nephew, and NHS nurse Harriet have set a date for their wedding. Their summer wedding will take place on Saturday, June 6 in a private ceremony at All Saints Church, Kemble in Cirencester.

Peter, 48, who is 19th in line to the throne, was previously married to Autumn Kelly, with whom he has his two daughters, Isla and Savannah. He also dated long-term partner Lindsay Wallace before they split in 2024, and he later found love with Harriet, an NHS paediatric nurse, who has a teenage daughter called Georgia.

Harriet is originally from Gloucestershire, with the wedding due to take place close to where she grew up. She has previously spoken out about her Christian faith saying it provided her comfort during her time as a single parent.

Last June, they appeared at Royal Ascot together where Harriet, who has also previously been married, made her debut in one of the carriages during the royal procession – with the move being seen as a significant sign of her moving into the royal fold.

Just weeks later, the pair announced their engagement after Peter proposed with a stunning diamond ring, designed by the same jeweller who made the late Queen’s engagement ring.

Their appearance today came as more than a hundred people gathered expectantly outside the castle, some holding banners or flags and one boy was dressed as a King’s Guard, to see the royals.

The Waleses missed the service last year as they were spending the weekend with their children in Norfolk, and were absent in 2024 as it came just over a week after Kate released an emotional video message disclosing that she had started a course of preventative chemotherapy.

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived by car in front of the castle to a shout of “God save the King” from the crowd on Sunday morning.

At the end of the service, the Queen was presented with a posey of flowers by 10-year-old Kit Bannan in front of the applauding crowd. Onlookers were eager to tell the King and Queen how far they had come to see them, with some having travelled from Germany, Hungary, Northern Ireland and Cumbria.

The King remarked: “I have very happy memories of Hungary years ago.” Another man in the crowd thanked the King for all he “did for the Jewish community” in the UK. The Waleses and their children all waved to the crowds after the service to cries of “Happy Easter” from those in attendance.
