Royal fans lash out at Meghan Markle for clashing with Carey Mulligan (Image: Netflix)
Meghan Markle suffered an awkward run-in with Carey Mulligan as the pair arrived at the same star-studded event in strikingly similar dresses. Last Friday, Netflix chief Ted Sarandos welcomed a host of high-profile guests to a Montecito mega-mansion to celebrate the new season of the hit drama Beef.
Mulligan, who stars in the upcoming series, opted for a bold green floor-length gown, while Meghan, 44, stepped out in a chartreuse-toned Heidi Merrick dress – instantly drawing comparisons between the two looks. Notably, many other guests appeared to stick to a more muted palette of black and white, often considered a go-to for formal Hollywood gatherings, making the colour clash all the more noticeable.
The overlap did not go unnoticed online. Royal watchers were quick to weigh in, with some suggesting the Duchess’s choice of colour risked overshadowing the guest of honour.

One social media user wrote: “She must have asked what kind of dress the star was wearing, and then Mm managed to find the ugliest dress in the same colour.”
Another added that the look felt “she wants all the attention on her.” Meanwhile, a third wrot: “I’d believe it was a mistake if it wasn’t THAT colour. That’s not a normal colour, and she never wears colour either, but the time she chooses to it just happens to be this really unique colour, the star of the party chooses.”
However, according to PageSix there was no formal dress code in place for the event, meaning the colour coordination appears to have been purely coincidental.

Meghan completed her look with brown Jimmy Choo heeled sandals, keeping her styling relatively minimal, while Mulligan’s ensemble leaned into a more statement, high-fashion aesthetic.
Despite the similarities in colour, the silhouettes and overall finishes of the dresses differed, with Mulligan’s look appearing more structured compared to Meghan’s softer, flowing design.
The event itself attracted a number of A-list attendees, including Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry and Riverdale actor Charles Melton, who also stars in Beef alongside Mulligan.

The highly anticipated series is set to premiere on the streaming platform on April 16.
Meghan and Prince Harry’s, 41, presence at the event also raised eyebrows for another reason.
Their appearance comes amid ongoing speculation about their relationship with Netflix, after it was revealed that Ted Sarandos had recently unfollowed both Meghan and her lifestyle brand, As Ever, on Instagram.
Despite this, the Duchess appeared in good spirits at the gathering and was seen chatting closely with Sarandos’ wife, Nicole Avant. The pair were even photographed holding hands as they posed alongside their husbands, suggesting that personal ties remain intact despite reports of shifting professional dynamics.
