The Royals open their season with their first two games on the road, Aug. 29 against East Carter and Sept. 2 against Van Buren. Last season, East Carter finished 12-10 overall, while Van Buren came away with a 4-18 record.
Following their two road games to open the season, the Royals return home Sept. 4 for a matchup with Sikeston, followed by two more home games Sept. 5 and 9 with Naylor and Doniphan. Last season, Sikeston finished 2-22 with wins against Naylor and DeSoto. Naylor came away with a 1-12 record with their only win during the Class 1 District 1 Tournament against Newburg 20-7. Doniphan’s team finished 15-10, making it all the way to the third round of the Class 3 District 1 Tournament where they lost 5-1 to Saxony Lutheran with St. Vincent.
During their 2024 campaign, the Royals finished with a record of 7-9 with wins against East Carter, Sikeston, Naylor, Central (Cape Girardeau) and Van Buren. Their final game of the season ended in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament with a 17-2 loss to East Carter. During their season, offensively the Royals were led by Bader with one home run and four stolen bases, Benson with 11 hits and eight runs scored, and Parson with nine runs batted in. In the circle, Parson had an earned run average of 3.77, while pitching 39 innings, and striking out 51 batters.
Despite a new group, Parson is confident that the success they had last year can carry over to this season.
“We were really young,” Parson added. “We had a lot of freshman last year and now that those freshman have that year under their belt, they’ll be more experienced. We don’t have any juniors this season. We’ll be competitive, but we’ll also be young.”
