The Kansas City Royals have not gotten off to the start that they had hoped for. Hitting and pitching have given the team fits this season, leading to their 25-38 start.
They are tied with the Detroit Tigers for the worst record in the division, and if you were to ask the fanbase before the season if they expected to see their team with a worse record than the Chicago White Sox, they probably would have thought you were crazy, but here we are.
So, the upcoming MLB Draft is something that Kansas City fans can look forward to if they have lost faith in the current team. They were awarded the sixth overall pick, and there will be some elite talent to choose from.

Royals linked to one of the fastest players in the class with their first-round pick
The Royals have been a team that is not afraid of taking high school talent with their first-round picks. Both first-round picks from last year’s draft were both prep talent.
And that trend could continue into this year’s draft as Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes they will select Mississippi prep outfielder Eric Booth Jr. sixth overall.
“An elite athlete and one of the fastest players in the 2026 class, Booth has also showcased the bat speed and raw pop to be more than just a burner. He won the Home Run Derby at the Perfect Game All-American Classic last summer, and he has had as much helium as anyone this spring. A 20-homer, 40-steal everyday center fielder could be his future outcome.”
Booth Jr. is one of the speediest players in the class, which helps him cover ground in center field and be a menace on the basepaths. Offensively, he has a lot of pop and a lot of room to continue to grow, develop, and get stronger.
This could be an excellent pick for the Royals with all of his upside.
