The Royals secured a key piece of their infield Wednesday, agreeing to a five-year contract extension with third baseman Maikel Garcia that includes a club option for 2031.
Garcia, 25, signed with Kansas City as a 16-year-old out of Venezuela in 2016 and has developed into one of the club’s core players. The extension covers all four of his arbitration seasons and up to two free agent years, keeping him under team control through at least 2030.
The deal follows Garcia’s breakout 2025 season, when he earned his first All-Star selection and won a Gold Glove at third base. He hit .286 with 16 home runs, 74 RBIs and 23 stolen bases while appearing in 160 games.
Royals general manager J.J. Picollo cited Garcia’s growth in athleticism, defense and plate discipline as reasons for the long-term commitment.
Garcia said the extension provides stability as he focuses on helping Kansas City contend.
