“To see another big year would be two juniors, Will Parker and Eli Hequembourg,” she added. “They both medaled our first meet and they medaled several meets. Will finished first at our Ozark Foothill Conference run with an incredible time. Some other kids that are coming back that I think are going to have a fantastic year are both Grady and Brody Blue. They have ran all summer long, every day, and their times so far are amazing.”
The Royals open their season Sept. 3 at an event called Run with the Elks in Perk Ranch Fremont, Missouri hosted by Winona High School.
“I know the kids are really looking forward to the first meet, as well as myself,” Weidenbenner said. “It kind of gets a little monotonous just practicing every day, so when they finally get to starting seeing the kids from the other schools, they really loved it last year. And they now know the tracks. It’s not new to them, so they’re looking forward to going and they know what to be prepared for when they get to these meets.”
With the program still new and continuing to grow, Weidenbenner hopes to continue to see progress along the way, particularly in athletes’ overall gains and personal growth.
“The relationships that they build at each meet, kids from different teams. I really enjoy when we get somewhere and they build those relationships out there that they don’t realize are going to carry beyond with them, and that’s what I think is going to be important,” she said.
