Matt Quatraro knew how close the Kansas City Royals were to beating the Detroit Tigers in their 10-9 loss on Thursday night.

Going into the game, Kansas City lost the first two games of the three-game set. The team has been unable to shake off its slow start as they find themselves near the bottom of the overall standings.

Kansas City tried to put an end to Detroit’s five-game win streak. They initially went down 6-1 after five innings before booming with a 7-1 display in the sixth and seventh frames. Despite this, Detroit didn’t lose confidence in the final inning. They outscored the visitors 3-1, enjoying a game-winning walk-off from Colt Keith.

Quatraro reflected on the loss after the game, via MLB.com. He looked at the bright side of things, commenting on plays certain players made to help Kansas City have a chance at beating Detroit in the series finale.

“There were a lot of positives offensively today. Obviously, the big inning, but we chipped away earlier than that, you know, got it, got it back to six, two and adding on the extra run. But, yeah, I mean, there were great at bats throughout that seventh inning, you know, and even positives before that,” Quatraro said.

“But obviously it didn’t work out. You got to give them credit. They battled a lot of good at bats. Put some balls and play hard, and they beat us.”

What’s next for Matt Quatraro, Royals after Tigers loss

It was a valiant effort for Matt Quatraro and the Royals to stop the Tigers’ win streak. However, they came up short as Detroit stays on the win column while Kansas City remains on the loss column.

Kansas City fell to a 7-12 record on the season, holding the fourth spot in the AL Central Division standings. They are above the Chicago White Sox but trail the Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians.

Going through four consecutive losses, the Royals will look to bounce back in their next road series. They take on the New York Yankees as the series opener will commence on April 17 at 7:05 p.m. ET.
