The Kauffman Stadium outfield will look different in 2026.
The Kansas City Royals are moving most of their outfield fences in by about 10 feet ahead of the upcoming season, the team announced Tuesday.
“Our goal here isn’t to have an offensive ballpark,” general manager J.J. Picollo said, according to MLB.com’s Anne Rogers. “It’s to have a very fair ballpark. We don’t want it to turn into a bandbox and every ball up in the air turns into a home run. We just want hitters to be rewarded when they hit the ball well, particularly in the gaps.”
The center-field fence will remain the same at 410 feet, but left field, right field and the left- and right-field corners will all be moved in 9 feet, according to the Royals.
Additionally, the walls in left-center and right-center will come in 10 feet. The foul poles in both left and right will remain at 330 feet, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The height of the fences will also be lowered from 10 feet to 8.5 feet in most places.
While Kauffman Stadium’s large outfield has led to more doubles and triples in recent years, it remains one of the toughest parks for home runs.
Only 85 homers were hit at Kauffman Stadium during the 2025 campaign, according to Statcast’s park factors leaderboard.
