The Kansas City Royals were defeated 7-5 by the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night. At 7-16 overall, the Royals now have the worst record in MLB. Kansas City expected to play better in 2026, but the team has yet to find a rhythm. Star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. addressed the Royals’ disappointing start to the season after Monday’s game, via Anne Rogers of MLB.com.
“You look back two months ago, month ago, no one in here would believe we’re technically the worst team in baseball,” Witt said. “We believe in each and every one in here. … It’s frustrating. Sucks. It’s one of those things where we got to be better.”
It has been a struggle for the Royals without question. Many players on the roster are underperforming. It is only April and the team still has potential. It would not be surprising to see Kansas City turn things around.
Witt is playing well for the most part, but the Royals star has yet to hit a home run. Overall, he has recorded a slash line of .287/.370/.356. One has to imagine the power will come, but Witt is still playing well despite his lack of long balls.
Players such as Salvador Perez and Vinnie Pasquantino have struggled to begin the new campaign, however. Kansas City will need them to get back on track soon.
The Royals will attempt to snap an eight-game losing streak on Tuesday night in the second game of their series against the Orioles. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST in Kansas City.
