A late run by the University of Scranton men’s basketball team carried them past Susquehanna University, 75-65, in a Landmark Conference game Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove.

Jon Spatola had 16 points and six rebounds, while Brendan Carr added 15 points for the Royals (5-1 league, 12-1 overall), who won their ninth straight game.

Leading, 53-51, with 7:15 left, Hamilton Roth scored six straight points to spark an 11-2 spurt that extended the margin to 64-53 with 3:37 to play. Scranton then sealed the win by going 9 for 12 from the foul line.

Josias Carbon finished with nine points for the Royals. Roth wound up with eight points, while Sammy Tornabene and Abington Heights grad Will Marion chipped in seven points apiece. Tornabene also grabbed six rebounds and Marion handed out six assists.

Marywood 84, Pratt Institute 80: At Scranton, Collin Himmelberg equaled his career high with 24 points and Marywood outlasted Pratt Institute in an Atlantic East Conference game at Insalaco Arena.

Himmelberg also grabbed seven rebounds. Michel Loftin added 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Pacers (1-1, 8-5). Old Forge grad Joe Macciocco contributed 13 points and seven assists. Pedro Lugo had four blocks.

Down, 51-48, Macciocco scored eight straight points on a 3-pointer and five free throws to spark a 12-2 run that gave Marywood a 60-53 lead with 10:56 left. Pratt closed to within 69-67 with 6:24 remaining, but the Pacers scored 10 of the next 12 points to make it 79-69 with 4:31 to play.  Again, the Cannoneers tried to rally and cut the deficit to 82-78 with 24 seconds left. But two free throws by Loftin with 21 seconds left sealed the win for Marywood.

Lancaster Bible 96, Keystone 74: At Lancaster, Lancaster Bible College opened the second half with a 15-5 burst and pulled away from Keystone College in a United East Conference matchup.

Scranton High grad P.J. Murphy had a game-high 26 points for Keystone (1-4, 3-13). Ahmodrion Jones added 16 points and five assists for the Giants, while Niame Scott contributed 13 points off the bench.

Women’s basketball

At Scranton, Marywood University overcame a four-point halftime deficit by outscoring Pratt Institute in the third quarter, 18-8, on its way to a 58-46 victory in an Atlantic East Conference game Saturday at Insalaco Arena.

Dunmore grad Mia Blume led the Pacers (2-0, 7-6) with 15 points. Alli Anstadt added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Tamari Hubbard grabbed 10 rebounds. Megan Cavoli chipped in nine points and Old Forge grad Jewlya McCullon netted seven points.

Lancaster Bible 66, Keystone 45: At Lancaster, Keystone College lost to Lancaster Bible College in a United East Conference game.

Mid Valley graduate Krista Cortazar led the Lady Giants (2-3, 3-13). Jayda Price followed with 11 points, while Phaneirra Barnett had eight points and eight rebounds.

Wrestling

At Scranton, early pins by Charles Arobone (133) and Christopher Cordero (141) helped send the University of Scranton on its way to a 45-11 nonconference win over Bergen Community College on Saturday at the John Long Center.

Kevin McCarvill (165) and Charles Kitching (174) also had pins for the Royals.
