Royals starter Seth Lugo was accidentally hit in the forehead with a 107 mph liner from his former teammate and Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo.
Lugo immediately dropped to the mound. Nimmo sprinted to first base, but immediately went to Lugo to check on his friend. Nimmo and Lugo played several seasons together with the New York Mets.
Here is a look at that terrifying moment:
Royals trainers also rushed to Lugo, who was able to get back on his feet and walk off the field, a good sign for the veteran pitcher. But his night was over after that. He exited following 3 1/3 innings of work, allowing an earned run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

The 36-year-old Lugo played his first seven seasons in the big leagues with the Mets from 2016 to 2022. After the 2022 season, he signed with the San Diego Padres and went to the Royals as a free agent in 2023.
The 33-year-0ld Nimmo, on the other hand, also played for the Mets beginning in the 2016 campaign and stayed with the team until 2025. New York traded him to the Rangers in exchange for infielder Marcus Semien in 2025.
With Lugo leaving the game, the Royals are forced to dig into their bullpen early, with Mason Black taking over the mound. Black later allowed Nimmo to score following a bases-loaded walk to Rangers outfielder Evan Carter.
