The Kansas City Royals (29-45) have spent just one day above .500 this season and are currently rooming with the Los Angeles Angels in the American League basement. Even in a seemingly fraudulent Junior Circuit, KC’s playoff hopes look to be flat-lining. They will be nonexistent if injuries continue to pile up. All-Star third baseman Maikel Garcia exited Tuesday’s 6-4 road loss versus the Washington Nationals with left hand soreness, per the team.

Seth Lugo, Cole Ragans, Vinnie Pasquantino, Kris Bubic and Carlos Estevez are all on the injured list, so this already-deteriorating vessel cannot incur any additional leaks. Garcia missed a little time in late April and late May with elbow and hamstring injuries, respectively. This latest issue luckily concerns his non-batting hand, but a hampered hand is obviously never good news.
The 26-year-old Venezuelan has yet to match his breakout 2025 campaign, but he is still regarded as one of the most important players on this team. Garcia is batting .267 with three home runs, 30 RBIs, 16 doubles, five stolen bases, a .325 on-base percentage, .380 slugging percentage, and .705 OPS in 66 games. He is also a reigning Gold Glove Award winner who can provide significant value at the hot corner.
Translation: the moribund Royals may have just suffered another big blow. This beaten-down fan base will struggle to find optimism amid another disappointing campaign. KC is now eight games out of the final Wild Card slot and could own sole possession of last place in the AL by the end of the night.
A Maikel Garcia update will hopefully come soon.
