By missing the postseason, the Royals had a franchise first happen this season.

When the Royals had made the playoffs in the past, it always came in consecutive seasons: 1976-78, 1980-81, 1984-85 and 2014-15.

But the Royals, who advanced to the American League Division Series last season, finished this year with an 82-80 record and missed out on the postseason.

Two of the Royals’ biggest stars took to social media this week to acknowledge the season didn’t end how they hoped. And they made sure to thank Royals fans.

Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino and shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. both wrote messages on X.

“Came up short of our goal, but thankful for the teammates, coaches, and staff for getting us through 2025,” Pasquantino wrote. “Especially grateful for the fans supporting us everyday throughout this season. We will keep working and be ready for 2026.”

The Royals’ attendance this season was 1,748,801, an increase of 90,454 from 2024. It was the highest attendance at Kauffman Stadium since 2017 (2,220,370).

Witt retweeted an X message from the Royals and wrote: “Thank you fans for all the love and support this year!! Can’t wait to get back to work in 2026!”
