The Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball team moved to 3-3 with a 72-53 loss to Milford Dec. 20 on the Royals’ Mohr Floor in Georgetown.
The shots were dropping for the Bucs, as they took a 36-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. The third period belonged to Royals sophomore Asher Woods, as he connected for 12 of his 16 points in the quarter. It was the only quarter won by the Royals.
“After halftime, coach [Tom Pedersen] told me that I’m a talented and capable player and I need to stop holding back,” said Woods. “So that’s what I did.”
The Bucs regained the momentum, outscoring the Royals 20-13 in the final period to take the 19-point victory.
Royals freshman guard Aarin Tucker scored 12 points. while grabbing five rebounds. Junior Noah Barbrow tallied 11 points and snagged nine rebounds. Senior Gideon Woods and Andrew Collins each had six rebounds.
“I’m happy with where the team is right now,” said Royals coach Pat Woods. “We need to work on consistency as a group and as individuals. We need to be able to put together four quarters of focused execution. And individually, we need to be more consistent with the TNTs [things that take no talent]. But our cohesion and united purpose has been great. These guys are unselfish and genuinely care about each other.”
Taj’Mir Handy led the Bucs with 24 points.
The Royals travel to Salisbury, Md., Friday, Dec. 26, to play Washington High School in the Governor’s Challenge.
