Set two began with a 5-0 run by the Green Wave. The Royals got their first point when a shot was knocked out of bounds by Malden. The Royals were able to get some points on the offensive end of the floor when Thomas set the ball up for sophomore Lilly Hillis, who jumped up at the net and came away with multiple points in the set.
Set two concluded when a serve by Murphy deflected off freshman Royal Marcy McBroom, dropping the set 25-11 and putting them in an 0-2 hole.
Set three started off on a high note for the Royals when junior Lilly Oliver spiked the ball, followed by a set from Thomas, which led to another spike from Hollis giving the Royals a 2-0 lead. The Royals continued to play strong on the offense and defense, including multiple digs from Acre, which turned into a 9-7 lead.
“I was really excited,” Oliver said. “Lilly, Katie, and Raegan always do amazing. It takes a lot to get a good play.”
Malden continued to storm back eventually taking a 21-17 lead when Vancil called a timeout. When play resumed, Malden was able to close out the set earning their 11th win of the season. The Royals move to 3-4 on the season and go on the road Friday, when they take on the 1-5 Delta (Deering) Chargers, who are coming off a 3-0 win against the Southland Rebels.
“I think we just need to get our passes up,” Oliver added. “That should bring us back. That’s a very winnable game.”
