Ryan Gosling tapped by ‘SNL’ to host for fourth time
Ryan Gosling is returning to host “Saturday Night Live” on March 7 ahead of the release of his upcoming film “Project Hail Mary.” The Gorillaz join as musical guests.
Ryan Gosling turned his latest talk show appearance into a rare public appearance alongside his longtime wife, Eva Mendes, with an epic birthday celebration.
The 45-year-old actor is the star of the upcoming sci-fi adventure movie “Project Hail Mary,” set for release on March 20. He plays a middle school science teacher who is sent into space as the world comes to an end.
Gosling spoke about the film while sitting down with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” on Thursday, March 5, in front of an audience intentionally full of educators. Toward the end of the interview, he switched gears and asked the crowd to sing “Happy Birthday” as a surprise to Mendes.
“You have no idea how much she loves teachers,” he said. “She has her hall monitor sash still from when she was a kid. She hangs it proudly in the house.”

Mendes was escorted to the stage and was met with cheers from the audience.
“I love teachers so much. We owe so much to you guys,” she said. “I had so many amazing teachers mentor me. And I just wanted to say thank you to you guys.”
To kick things up a notch, a North Bergen, New Jersey, high school marching band played the birthday song to the “Hitch” actress. They also held a banner that said “Happy Birthday Eva!”
She kissed Gosling after the serenade.
Gosling and Mendes keep their marriage and family life private
“The Tonight Show” extravaganza is a rare public sighting for the couple. They were spotted together at the Paris Olympics in 2024, according to USA TODAY’s previous reporting.
Mendes notably stepped away from the limelight to be a stay-at-home mother.
“It was like a no-brainer,” she said on a segment on “Today” in 2024. “I’m so lucky. And I was like, if I can have this time with my children – and I still work, I just didn’t act, because acting takes you on locations, it takes you away.”
Gosling and Mendes have been partners since 2011 and share two daughters together. They met when they both starred in the movie “The Place Beyond the Pines.”
