Ryan Gosling addressed his interest in space-themed films when asked about his fixation, stating, “I don’t know. I’m a bit like, am I a bit of a space case?” He continued, “I do feel like it’s fascinating and just the perspective that it gives me, and just love space films.” He added, “I feel very lucky to have made these films. And I think I’m not done.”
During the exchange, the interviewer remarked, “You should spend your career in space,” to which Gosling responded, “Yeah, I know. Can you make too many?” He also said, “I don’t know. I just did Star Wars,” before concluding, “I still love them and still want to make more of them.”
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed the 2026 science fiction adventure film Project Hail Mary. Drew Goddard wrote the screenplay based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, and Lionel Boyce. It follows Ryland Grace as he awakens on a spacecraft with no memory of how he arrived.
The film premiered in London on March 9, 2026, and Amazon MGM Studios released it in the United States on March 20, 2026. It has grossed $141 million worldwide, including $80.6 million domestically and $60.4 million internationally.
Gosling’s comments reference his involvement in multiple space-related projects, including First Man and Project Hail Mary, and confirm his continued interest in making films within the science fiction and space genre.
