A man accused of stalking singer Sabrina Carpenter was ordered by a judge to stay at least 100 yards from the “Espresso” singer for the next five years.
The order Wednesday comes after an earlier court proceeding when the 27-year-old pop star was granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) against 31-year-old William Applegate.
The TRO request alleged that Applegate trespassed on Carpenter’s property four times since April, most recently on May 23 when he showed up at her home’s front entrance and tried to open the door. The TRO request included security camera images of Applegate at the door.
Police responded to her home and he was arrested that night on suspicion of trespassing, a misdemeanor, but returned two days later.
“His pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress, and I am in fear [of] what he may do if he is not restrained by his Court,” Carpenter wrote in her declaration requesting the restraining order.
In testimony Wednesday, Applegate repeated statements he made in a sworn declaration in opposition to an extension of the stay-away order. He claimed that he and Carpenter are both currently part of a classified “military government program.”
“Carpenter and I being together as soon as possible is essential not only to the success of the program, but to national and global security and the possibility of our continuing existence on this planet both as a global community and as a species,” Applegate said in his declaration.
Applegate said he and Carpenter met during a July 2025 concert when she performed in London.
Carpenter appeared via remote feed Wednesday, but did not testify.
