Pop star Sabrina Carpenter might not have planned it, but her new song “Nobody’s Son” has country fans doing double takes.

The track off her new album Man’s Best Friend has been lighting up conversations online, and not because of her usual chart-topping pop magic. Listeners swear the chorus sounds almost identical to Jon Pardi’s “Heartache Medication,” and once you hear it, you cannot unhear it.

Pardi dropped “Heartache Medication” in 2019, and it quickly became his signature honky-tonk anthem. The fiddles and the shuffle beat gave it a barroom swing that made it feel like a classic the moment it hit the airwaves. Now Carpenter’s “Nobody’s Son” has folks pointing out that her “here I go again” chorus carries the same kind of bounce and heartbreak swagger.

Whiskey Riff even called out the comparison, and fans piled on in the comments with their own takes. One said, “THANK YOU, I thought I was crazy.” Another laughed, “I always go from singing ‘Nobody’s Son’ to ‘Heartache Medication.’” Others just cut to the chase and demanded a collab, saying, “Jon Pardi x Sabrina Carpenter when?”

Carpenter is no stranger to brushing up against country. She has collaborated with Dolly Parton, she has covered “9 to 5” on stage, and she has a little twang in her delivery when she wants to. That is why fans are not shocked that her music accidentally, or maybe not so accidentally, brushes against Nashville.

Still, what makes this moment funny is how split the reactions are. Some fans swear she is giving undercover country girl vibes. Others say it reminds them of Thomas the Train, Barney, or even ABBA’s Mamma Mia. A few swore they heard Ace of Base’s “The Sign” tucked into the melody. It is a wild mix of nostalgia, but the Jon Pardi comparison is the one that refuses to die.

The timing could not be better. Country is having another big cultural moment, and pop stars are lining up to dip their toes in. From Post Malone crashing the Opry stage to Beyoncé throwing cowboy hats on her album cover, everybody wants in on the boots-and-bourbon energy. So hearing Carpenter’s song lean toward Pardi’s lane feels more like a sign of the times than an accident.

If anything, this shows the walls between pop and country are not as high as they used to be. “Nobody’s Son” may not be a fiddle-driven anthem, but it taps into the same spirit of drinking off heartache that country fans know all too well. Maybe Carpenter was not aiming for Nashville, but she sure hit close enough to get the crowd talking.

Would a real collab work? Fans are already dreaming up pairings, and Megan Moroney’s name gets thrown around while Pardi himself would be the obvious match. Carpenter has the star power, and country music has the storytelling grit. Together, that is gasoline waiting for a match.

For now, “Nobody’s Son” will live as a pop track with country echoes. Yet the fact that fans cannot stop hearing “Heartache Medication” in it proves something bigger. Country music’s sound is spilling into places nobody expected.

And if Sabrina Carpenter accidentally borrowed a page from Jon Pardi’s playbook, that just means Nashville’s influence is stronger than ever.
