Prince William has given a tellingly confident response about the state of the Royal Family amid the fallout from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest.
On Thursday, the Prince and Princess of Wales completed yet another royal engagement, visiting the Welsh town of Newtown ahead of the country’s national day, St David’s Day, on March 1.
During the royal outing, William, 43, and Kate, 44, spent time with volunteer groups at Hafan yr Afon and the Oriel Davies art gallery, and took part in various activities promoting Welsh culture.
Upon their arrival, the couple were met with cheers from dozens of well-wishers who had turned out in the pouring rain to meet them.
As William took the time to greet members of the crowd, one local, named Jill Christofides, 65, was lucky enough to speak to him.
Speaking to reporters after her memorable meeting with the future King, Christofides revealed their poignant conversation amidst a period of turmoil for the Royal Family.
“The monarchy is safe in your hands,” she told William, to which he replied: “Thank you, that’s very sweet of you.”
“With all that is going on at the moment, there could be a swell against. But I think when you see the time that (William) is willing to spend with the people, I think it’s lovely to see,” Christofides added to the County Times.
The Waleses’ outing marks the third public appearance they have made since Andrew’s arrest last Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Kate attended the England v Ireland Six Nations game on Saturday, which was followed by a joint appearance with William at the BAFTA Awards on Sunday. William also stepped out for a solo royal engagement in London on Wednesday.
According to royal experts, the Waleses’ jam-packed calendar is part of a carefully crafted plan to create a “distraction” from the fallout from Andrew’s arrest and revelations about his dealings with Jeffrey Epstein.
According to commentator Hayley Knight, William and Kate are determined to show “it’s business as usual” and their frequent public outings are part of a “national front”.
“The days of ‘Never complain, never explain,’ have clearly gone,” journalist Phil Dampier also told HELLO!
“They can’t just bury their heads in the sand and say we’ve got nothing to say about this.
“They’re showing that The Firm is still working so Andrew is almost portrayed as one bad apple, so to speak.”
It comes after the parents-of-three supported the statement shared by King Charles following Andrew’s arrest, where the monarch expressed his “deepest concern” and stated that the “law must take its course”.
Before Andrew’s arrest, William and Kate shared their “concern” about the revelations plaguing the former Duke of York in the US Department of Justice’s Epstein files.
“I can confirm the Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims,” a spokesperson said.
