Sam Fender has promised his fans to “sort my shit out” and pledged to release new music next year.
The indie songster made the revelations during his headline show at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester on August 16th, as on of his first gigs back after being forced to cancel a run of concerts over the past year due to an ongoing issue of vocal haemorrhages.
According to Clash, Fender told the crowd: “I’m gonna go away at the end of this lot of shows and sort my shit out and get my voice as good as possible and make another album and fuck loads of new tunes next year.”
He then added: “I wanna make it the greatest time ever.”
It comes as Fender has previously flaunted the idea of a follow-up to his critically acclaimed People Watching, as during his appearance on The Zane Lowe Show earlier this year, he said: “Now I’m ready to do another one. I just want to get back in the studio, if I’m honest. I’ve got a load of new songs already.”
In its review of the Manchester gig, Far Out wrote: “Fender appeared to be relieved, more than anything, about being back on stage. He was in a jovial mood throughout the show, whether this was enquiring if they had a toilet on-stage because he’d drunk too much water to soothe his voice, or doing his best Frank Sinatra impression to serenade his guitarist, Dean Thompson.”
Fender is set to continue his current run of UK summer shows at the Royal Highland Showground in Edinburgh on August 22nd, followed by the Boucher Road Playing Fields in Belfast on August 28th. He will then embark on a North American tour, beginning on September 17th in Boston.
