The former Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson finds herself in a “deep mess” as acquaintances delivered a harsh assessment of her “comeback” whilst the repercussions of her connection to Jeffrey Epstein persist.
Sarah, 66, is understood to be homeless at the moment and staying with friends in New York following her departure alongside ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from Royal Lodge in Windsor last month.
The I paper has learnt that she remains in a “deep mess” whilst associates and royal commentators have allegedly informed the publication that her wealthy contacts would need to be “stupid” to pursue any business arrangements with her at present.
Her circumstances have deteriorated since the full extent of her links to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein surfaced in a batch of emails disclosed by the US Justice Department. They seemingly reveal Sarah describing him as her “supreme friend” following his 2009 prison discharge for soliciting a prostitute.
Being referenced in the Epstein files does not constitute evidence of misconduct.
Sarah has subsequently been removed as a patron by multiple charities, whilst eight firms in which she holds directorship have been dissolved in recent weeks, the Mirror reports.
The emails also seemingly demonstrate her seeking Epstein’s guidance regarding £6million of debt in 2009 whilst he remained incarcerated. Her lifestyle enterprise, Hartmoor, went under that year.
The correspondence appeared to depict Sarah, Epstein, and David Stern – an associate of Andrew’s – making preparations for potential bankruptcy, although this ultimately didn’t materialise. Andrew Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, stated that whilst Sarah previously secured “good” business arrangements, her “huge problem was the spending”.
She continued: “She was always looking for the quick buck. Anyone who would provide money she would go to.”
Beyond staying on friends’ sofas in New York, Sarah reportedly visited a Swiss spa with costs reaching an astonishing £13,000 daily alongside a wellness retreat in Ireland. She had resided with former husband Andrew at Royal Lodge for nearly 20 years despite the pair divorcing in 1996.
However, following Andrew’s removal from Royal Lodge by his brother King Charles, there appeared little prospect of Sarah accompanying the disgraced former Duke of York to the considerably more humble Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate. Andrew is residing there whilst his planned permanent home, Marsh Farm, undergoes refurbishment.
Sarah has additionally been strongly predicted to capitalise on the circumstances by publishing a revealing memoir, yet she has faced rejection from American publishers owing to her links with Epstein, according to Hollywood insiders.
She has purportedly presented the concept of her autobiography to leading US publishing companies seeking an agreement ‘in the region of $2million (£1.49million).
