Actor Scott Eastwood, son of actor and director Clint Eastwood, is clarifying comments made by his brother, Kyle, about their father’s purported retirement.
“We’ll see,” Scott said. “I have not heard that from his mouth at all.”
In November, Kyle, a bassist and film composer, told a French outlet, “Now he’s retired, he’s 95 years old. But I was very lucky to be able to work with him on quite a few films.”
Legends never fade, but they do retire. Is Clint Eastwood one of them?
The prolific actor turned director has worked more steadily into his 90s than some filmmakers half his age do. But when Eastwood’s last film, the courtroom drama Juror No. 2, premiered a few months after his 94th birthday in 2024, fans began to wonder when, if ever, he might officially hang it up.
Bassist and film composer Kyle Eastwood, the third eldest of the filmmaker’s eight children, kicked that speculation into high gear when a tossed-off comment made to a French news outlet in November that his dad has retired began to circulate widely last week. Now, actor Scott Eastwood, Clint’s fifth eldest, is walking that scuttlebutt back.

“We’ll see. I have not heard that from his mouth at all,” Scott told ScreenRant on Tuesday. “So I don’t know what that feels like. His career in general has been something to admire, something to be inspired by, and continues to inspire me. The work, the artistry that he’s done on and off screen. Producing, writing, composing, directing, acting. The body of work is incredible.”
His brother Kyle’s comments were made during an interview he gave to the French news service France Info, on the occasion of a concert he put on in the town of Amiens on Nov. 20.
“I have many fond memories of working with him. Now he’s retired, he’s 95 years old. But I was very lucky to be able to work with him on quite a few films. It was a great experience for me,” he said.

Eastwood broke out as an actor in the mid-1960s with roles in Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western trilogy, the “Man With No Name.” But he quickly veered into directing with the sleek thriller Play Misty for Me, which was released in 1971. He has since directed 40 films over the course of 54 years, and after the release of his last movie, 2024’s Juror No. 2, there seemed to be no stopping him.
In May 2024, Eastwood remarked that no one would have to worry about his condition “for a long time,” according to The A.V. Club. “There’s no reason why a man can’t get better with age,” he said. “Sure, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I’m not one of them.”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for Eastwood for comment.
