Production is underway in New Jersey for “Bad Day,” the upcoming film starring Cameron Diaz.
Diaz was seen filming the Netflix movie in Plainfield Monday.
As the title suggests, her character is having really, really bad day in the action comedy.
Jake Szymanski (“Jury Duty,” “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”) is directing the film, written by Laura Solon (“Office Christmas Party”).
In the movie, Diaz plays a single mother who tries to keep a promise to her daughter on the very bad day.

“Bad Day,” which filmed on Park Avenue in Plainfield, saw Diaz, 53, wearing a red employee vest for a fictional store called Rooms & More in one scene. Her name tag said “Joy.”

The movie has also been filming in Bloomfield and Passaic and is set to film in Perth Amboy, among other Jersey locations.
“Bad Day” is part of Diaz’s continuing comeback after a long break from acting.
The actor, known for ’90s movies like “The Mask,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “A Life Less Ordinary” and “Being John Malkovich,” stepped away from acting after playing Miss Hannigan in the 2014 version of “Annie.”
In 2015, Diaz married Benji Madden of the band Good Charlotte. They had a daughter named Raddix in 2019 and a son named Cardinal in 2024.
Her first role back after the decade-long break was the aptly titled Netflix movie “Back in Action” opposite Jamie Foxx.

Diaz, whose other credits include “Shrek,” “The Holiday,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Gangs of New York” and “Bad Teacher,” heads up the “Bad Day” cast.
Oscar and Emmy nominee Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple,” “Orange is the New Black”) will join her in the movie, as will Emmy nominee Ed O’Neill (“Modern Family,” “Married… with Children”) and John Higgins from the Please Don’t Destroy sketches on “Saturday Night Live.”
“Bad Day” is one of many Netflix movies and series that are filming in New Jersey.
Productions currently in progress include the Jennifer Lopez thriller “The Last Mrs. Parrish,” based on the bestselling book; the Jamie Foxx Olympic boxing movie “Fight for ’84″; and the Dan Levy family-crime-comedy series “Big Mistakes.”
