Are you looking for a way to celebrate the new year? Sometimes holidays sneak up on us, especially around Christmas, so if you don’t have your plans sorted out yet, you’re not alone.
Luckily, there are plenty of events happening this week in Eugene, both on stage and on screen. Since most people will have the day off on Jan. 1, there is more time to get out, explore and see what our city is up to in the winter.
From showtimes to live music performances, read on to see local happenings in Eugene this week.
Catch the first of Art House’s French New Wave series
Art House is showing a variety of new series in 2026, including a succession of French New Wave films that will be playing all through the year. The first film in the series, “Ascenseur Pour L’Echafaud / Elevator to the Gallows,” will begin playing Jan. 2 and runs through Jan. 8. The film follows a businessman who murders his mistress’ husband, who happens to be his boss. His plot unravels when the killer gets stuck in an elevator.
Art House is located at 492 E. 13th Ave. “Ascenseur Pour L’Echafaud / Elevator to the Gallows” is showing at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, 1:40 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 3, and at 5:40 p.m. on Jan. 4. Showtimes are also happening into next week.
Kick off the New Year on a jazzy note
After a brief break for the holidays, The Jazz Station is back with a stellar lineup of performances this weekend. Pianist-composer Abe Luedtke is debuting his new album “The Nature of Things” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2. His album was inspired by the beauty and nature of the Pacific Northwest, and is sure to brighten up a cool winter night. The Kerry Polizer Quartet is performing at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3, and The Oasis Ensemble is doing a classical show at 3 p.m. Jan. 4.
The Jazz Station is located at 124 W. Broadway in Eugene.
Start the year laughing at ‘The Book of Mormon’
“The Book of Mormon” is critically acclaimed, called “the best musical of the century” by The New York Times and “the funniest musical of all time” by Entertainment Weekly. But make up your mind for yourself … the iconic show is coming to the Hult Center Jan. 2, 3, and 4 in Eugene. See the mismatched missionaries travel across the world trying to spread the good word on stage to ring in the new year with some good laughs.
“The Book of Mormon” is showing at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Jan. 2 and 3, and at 1 p.m. for a matinee on Jan 4. The Hult Center is located at 1 Eugene Center.
Rock out at ‘Metal 4 Meals’
Gather with your community to start off 2026 at “Metal 4 Meals,” a show that will raise funds for Food For Lane County and also provide the community with a space to listen to music and hang out. This is the third annual “Metal 4 Meals,” and will feature five metal bands for a night of all-ages fun at WOW Hall. Showgoers who bring three non-perishable foods to the door will receive discounted tickets.
WOW Hall is located at 291 W. Eighth Ave. in Eugene. Doors for “Metal 4 Meals” open at 7 p.m. on Jan. 3.
See Larry Pattis at Tsunami Books
Larry Pattis, an American Guitar Master, is kicking off the 2026 concert season at Tsunami Books. Pattis has been a featured headline performer for festivals across the U.S., and now resides in Pleasant Hill. Enjoy some local music and cozy ambiance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3. Tsunami Books is located at 2585 Willamette St. in Eugene.
