While there are some couples who tend to coordinate their looks whenever they go out, others seem to revel in the practice of contrast dressing.
Last night, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco appeared to be in that latter camp as they celebrated Blanco’s 38th birthday with an intimate dinner at Saffy’s restaurant in Los Angeles. (The pair were also joined by the music producer’s mother, Sandra Beth Levin.)
For the special occasion, Gomez went more corporate with her attire, choosing a black double-breasted blazer with peak lapels, which she left hanging open to reveal an inky blouse and matching cigarette pants underneath, creating an overall monochromatic result.
To really bring the boardroom-esque look together, Gomez accessorized with a set of pointy black heels and an obsidian leather Bonnie tote from Prada. The only pop of color came courtesy of her burgundy phone case, which she held in her hand as she made her way to her car after dinner.
Benny Blanco went a little more casual—and colorful—with his birthday ensemble.
In contrast, the birthday boy went casual and colorful for the evening out. Blanco chose a lemon-hued zip-up hoodie from Illicitbloc, which he layered over a classic white tee with stacks of gold chains as accessories.
Down low, he wore a pair of white, paint-splattered cargo shorts that appeared to be a vintage Dickies find, and he completed his fit with some checkered Vans and white ribbed socks that extended to his calves.
Sometimes in love, and in fashion, opposites really do attract.
