Selena Gomez is reportedly preparing for one of the boldest moves of her acting career, with the former Disney Channel star said to be joining an upcoming film that’s already creating major buzz in Hollywood.
Known for her transition from child actress to award-winning performer and music star, Gomez appears ready to take another dramatic step away from the wholesome image that first made her famous.

The 33-year-old actress is reportedly attached to director Brady Corbet’s next feature project, a film that’s being described as both provocative and highly ambitious.
Rumored to carry the title The Origin of the World, the movie is expected to feature explicit adult themes and could reportedly stretch close to four hours in length.
Corbet, who earned critical acclaim for The Brutalist, has hinted that the production will break traditional storytelling boundaries. The filmmaker previously revealed that the script runs approximately 200 pages long, which has fueled speculation about the film’s massive runtime.
His earlier work already pushed limits with lengthy narratives and unconventional pacing, but this new project could take things even further.
Reports suggest the story spans several generations, covering periods from the 19th century to the modern era, although much of the plot is believed to center around the 1970s. Corbet has reportedly described the movie as “genre-defying,” adding to the mystery surrounding the production.
The film is also attracting an impressive cast. Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender are both rumored to be involved, giving the project even more star power.
Blanchett recently hinted during the Cannes Film Festival that she would soon begin working with Corbet, while reports of Fassbender’s casting surfaced shortly beforehand.
Gomez embraces a more mature Hollywood era
For many fans, Gomez’s involvement in an adult-oriented film doesn’t come completely out of nowhere. Over the years, the actress has steadily distanced herself from the carefully controlled Disney image she maintained throughout her teenage years on Wizards of Waverly Place.
In past interviews, Gomez admitted she often felt pressure to appear perfect while working under the Disney banner. She explained that even minor behavior or language choices were heavily scrutinized during her younger years in the spotlight.
As she’s grown older, however, the singer and actress has spoken openly about wanting to be authentic instead of chasing perfection.
“I definitely feel free of it,” Gomez told Variety in 2023. “Sometimes I get triggered. It’s not that I’m ashamed of my past, it’s just that I’ve worked so hard to find my own way. I don’t want to be who I was. I want to be who I am.”
Her recent acting choices reflect that shift. Alongside starring in Only Murders in the Building, Gomez has taken on more complex roles that showcase a different side of her talent.
Corbet’s upcoming movie may ultimately become her most daring project yet.
