Selena Gomez was unsure about pursuing a music career at 15, celebrity voice coach Roger Love, who worked with her during her early Disney days, said.
Before becoming a global pop star, Gomez first rose to fame as a child actor, best known for her role on the hit Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place. During this period, she was introduced to Love.

Recently speaking to The Mirror US, Love recalled, “I started with Selena back when she was doing her show on Disney… And so Disney said, ‘Hey, we want to make a record with her.’ And so they sent her to me to teach her. And she was very young, like, 15-16, really young.
“And so she was just learning of whether or not she even loved singing. It was new to her.”

Love said that at one point, “the public wanted more product from her and Disney wanted more product.” As a result, the two ended up working on a record together, which he described as highly successful.
He added that Gomez didn’t know if “she really even wanted to be a singer. She was interested in so many things and acting and other things.”
Over time, however, she returned to Roger with a clearer sense of direction and told him, “I really want this.” Gomez signed with Hollywood Records in 2008 and made three albums with her band, Selena Gomez & The Scene.

Reflecting on her evolution, Love emphasized the growth he witnessed firsthand. “I got her when she was very young and just thinking about singing to even later when she came back… But there was a growth, as in every singer, she got more passionate about singing and wanting to be a better singer,” Love stated.
Beyond his work with high-profile artists, Love continues to coach individuals on communication and vocal performance. He is also preparing to release a documentary titled Find Your Voice, which explores his groundbreaking technique for treating stuttering.
