For many artists, working with Beyoncé is the achievement of a lifetime. And that appears to be the case for Shaboozey.
In an interview with The Enquirer, the singer-songwriter discussed his musical journey thus far, including his collaboration with Beyoncé on her 2024 album “Cowboy Carter.”
The “A Bar Song (Tispsy)” singer, who performed at Voices of America Country Music Fest in West Chester Township on Aug. 8, said he grew up listening to Beyoncé on the radio. He went on to say it was “awesome” to work with her, the most Grammy-awarded artist of all time, on her recent country project.
Country artist Shaboozey sits down for an interview with The Enquirer during the Voices of America Country Festival at the VOA Park in West Chester on Aug. 8.
“Honestly, she’s a God,” the 30-year-old said. “Seeing someone at that level still kind of giving it they’re all, putting on a hell of a show. But also, she’s just very warm and inviting, very welcoming. It’s like family to me, honestly.”
Shaboozey added that one of the biggest things he learned from working with Beyoncé is the importance of a good work ethic. Beyoncé does it all, from writing her music to recording, to arranging songs and putting on a stellar show. The country music star said it’s “inspiring to see.”
“No one does the work for you … that’s my biggest thing,” he added. “She’s recording them songs, she’s writing on them songs, she’s arranging them songs. She’s putting that show together. It’s her doing it. It’s not something that’s just handed off to people. So, that was inspiring to see that you got to work. It’s on you.”
The Nigerian-American singer opened up for Grammy-winning singer Carrie Underwood during the third annual VOA country music festival Aug. 8. However, Shaboozey is no stranger to the Queen City.
He opened for Russell Dickerson at Andrew J. Brady Music Center in March 2024 before returning to the venue a few months later in September for the Forbes Under 30 Summit.
He also opened for Jelly Roll at Heritage Bank Center in November and attended a Cincinnati Bengals game while in town. Shaboozey then came back to the Queen City in May of this year to dine at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse.
