Shemar Moore isn’t done with the S.W.A.T. universe just yet. The actor is officially returning as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson in S.W.A.T. Exiles, a new spin-off series that continues the franchise after the original CBS show wrapped its eight-season run in 2025.
Sony Pictures Television confirmed the project following the conclusion of the flagship series, with the new show already having completed production of its first 10-episode season. According to SI Live, the series is currently being pitched to networks and streaming platforms, though it has not yet secured an official home on either.
The new series shifts the story into a different territory for Hondo. In S.W.A.T. Exiles, the veteran team leader is pulled out of forced retirement after a mission goes sideways. He’s then tasked with running what’s described as a “last-chance experimental” SWAT unit made up of younger and largely untested recruits.
The setup shifts the franchise away from the original team dynamic toward a mentorship-driven format focused on rebuilding a squad from scratch.
Moore remains the face of the franchise, but several familiar names from the original series are also attached to the project. Jay Harrington, Patrick St. Esprit, and David Lim are returning in guest roles as Deacon, Commander Hicks, and Tan.
The new cast includes Ronen Rubinstein from 9-1-1: Lone Star, as well as Freddy Miyares, Lucy Barrett, Zyra Gorecki, and Adain Bradley.
Behind the scenes, Lucifer executive producer Jason Ning is serving as showrunner, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. director Kevin Tancharoen helmed the pilot episode.
The spin-off arrives during an especially active stretch for Moore. In addition to wrapping S.W.A.T. Exiles, the actor recently returned to The Young and the Restless alongside Vivica A. Fox for a new storyline involving Malcolm Winters and Dr. Stephanie Simmons.
Moore originally played Malcolm from 1994 to 2005 before making several guest appearances over the years, including a 2023 return during the soap’s 50th anniversary tribute to the late Kristoff St. John.
