Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy, had a thriving social calendar before she was ruthlessly abducted from her Arizona home in a crime that has left the local community shaken.
Her years-long friend and book club buddy, Mary Ann Blevins, shared insights into the weeks leading up to Nancy’s disappearance in an interview with Page Six Wednesday.
“We were together last month,” Blevins said, explaining that they had gathered for their monthly book club meeting.
Blevins, 86, recalled Nancy, 84, being “in really good spirits” when their group of eight bookworms saw each other last.
“We’ve known each other for many, many years,” Blevins explained. “I met her a long, long time ago when we first started up the book club.”
“We’re in touch a lot,” she continued. “She’s just a beautiful person.”
Outside of their tight-knit reading crew, Blevins shared that Nancy spends her time with her mahjong group and her grandkids.
“[Nancy’s] daughter lives here and has a young boy that she sometimes picks up at school or watches,” Blevins said, referring to Savannah’s sister, Annie Guthrie, who lives nearby.
Blevins expressed concern for Nancy’s health, noting that she “needs medication” and has “trouble being mobile.”
“It’s amazing — you can know someone for years and then something like this can happen. It’s just impossible,” Blevins said, describing her friend as “a very sweet person” who is “very outgoing.”
When asked if Nancy had ever expressed having any fear of being alone or kidnapped, Blevins said, “No, never.” When asked if she ever spoke about having security concerns, Blevins said, “No, not at all.
“Anybody that knows her and met her loves her,” Blevins shared. “I don’t think she has any enemies, and that’s why this whole thing is very scary.”
Nancy was reported missing on Sunday morning after she failed to show up to church.
The last known sighting of Nancy took place the night before at around 9:30 p.m., after having dinner with Annie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni.
While authorities initially said that Annie was the last person to see her mom, law enforcement told The Post Wednesday that Cioni was the last person to see her alive after driving her to her house at around 9:45 p.m.
On Monday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Nancy’s home was being treated as a crime scene and that she may have been abducted from her home when she was sleeping.
“[Nancy] did not leave on her own,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, adding investigators believe the “circumstances on scene […] are suspicious in nature.”
As the investigation unfolded, an apparent trail of blood was seen in photos of Nancy’s home.
Savannah asked her fans for their prayers in a lengthy Instagram post on Feb. 2, while her husband, Michael Feldman, told Page Six that he didn’t “have anything new to report.”
On Tuesday, police confirmed that they weren’t ruling out a ransom demand before TMZ reported that they received an alleged note demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin in exchange for Nancy’s release.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department released a statement Tuesday saying they are “aware of reports circulating about a possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie.”
“We are taking all tips and leads very seriously,” the statement continued. “Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.”
That same day, the FBI was spotted visiting Annie’s Arizona home for a two-hour meeting. It is believed that Savannah was in the home during the meeting.
On Wednesday, the sheriff confirmed that a suspect or person of interest has yet to be identified.
Savannah has a close relationship with her mom and shared via a statement on the “Today” show that she is encouraging anyone with information to “contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
