Matt Groening, creator of the animated comedies “The Simpsons” and “Futurama,” dined at Mid-City restaurant Rosedale and left the spot with drawings of two iconic “Simpsons” characters.
One of the drawings, dated Saturday, April 25, shows Bart Simpson saying “Rosedale is delicious,” according to a post made by the restaurant on Instagram. Another features Krusty the Clown saying, “Hey Rosedale.”
Both drawings are signed by Groening, who called himself a fan of the restaurant.
“The Simpsons” and New Orleans have had an up-and-down relationship. During the show’s golden era in the ‘90s, the writers drew the ire of New Orleanians for a song in the season 4 episode “A Streetcar Named Marge” that referenced stereotypes associated with the Crescent City.
However, the season 29 episode “Lisa Gets the Blues,” which aired in 2018, featured a more affectionate take on the city. The episode’s standout scene featured Homer going on a rapid-fire food tour as he scarfed down all manner of oysters, gumbos and po-boys at several New Orleans restaurants.
Rosedale, at 801 Rosedale Dr., opened in 2016 as a more casual down-home spot for Creole and international flavors from acclaimed local chef Susan Spicer.
