Not only is “Kiss Me” the first song a young Taylor Swift learned to play on her guitar, the catchy pop tune has been part of more than 30 feature film and television soundtracks including “She’s All That,” “After the Sunset,” “The Simpsons,” “Dawson’s Creek,” and “Its Always Sunny in Philidelphia.”

Today, the dreamy, ethereal song of young love is having a moment nearly 30 years after it was first released in 1997. Renewed interested in the hit single “Kiss Me” has found new life through performances by Sabrina Carpenter, Blackpink’s band member Lisa and Kelly Clarkson, who recently covered the song on her daily talk show.

Two time Grammy-nominated Sixpence None The Richer, which formed in Texas in the 1990s, first climbed the Billboard Hot 100 when “Kiss Me” was featured on the 1999 rom-com “She’s All That.” In the years that followed, “Kiss Me” has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, placing the band in the elite Billions Club. Remarkably, over 33% of those streams occurred in 2024, demonstrating the song’s continued reach to new audiences and sustained growth in popularity.

But one song does not a concert make and “Kiss Me” isn’t the only hit fans will hear Wednesday when Sixpence None The Richer headlines WFPK’s monthly concert series.

Mixed in with new songs from Rosemary Hill, the band’s first EP in over a decade, we can expect to hear classic hits such as the band’s rendition of The La’s “There She Goes,” “Breath Your Name,” which was featured on the television series “Sex Education,” and the band’s cover of Crowded House’s classic “Don’t Dream It’s Over.”

Wednesday, Sixpence None The Richer, which features original band members Leigh Nash, Matt Slocum, and Justin Cary, will “strike up the band and make the fireflies dance” at the Big Four Lawn at Louisville’s Waterfront Park. Kashus Culpepper and Roadie are also on the bill.

The lawn opens at 5 p.m. with music starting at 6 p.m. You’ll find more information about this ticketless event at lpm.org.
