Sony Pictures Entertainment Posts 12% Quarterly Revenue Decline

Sony Pictures Entertainment Feb. 4 reported a 12% third-quarter (ended Dec. 31, 2025) revenue decline to under $2.3 billion compared with revenue of more than $2.6 billion in the previous-year period. Operating income dropped more than 11% to $197 million from operating income of $223 million.

The top-grossing movie in the current quarter included Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc with $117 million in global revenue.

By comparison, the previous-year fiscal period benefitted from the theatrical success of Venom: The Last Dance ($478 million) and Kraven the Hunter ($54 million), as well as licensing revenue from other theatrically released films.

Indeed, the media giant saw revenue declines across all business segments, including a 36% drop in home entertainment to $112 million from $176 million; 29% drop in motion pictures revenue to $792 million from $1.1 billion; 60% plummet in theatrical revenue to $98 million from $244 million; 26% decline in television revenue to $133 million from $181 million; and 7% drop in streaming revenue to $337 million from $363 million in the prior year period.

Television production revenue dropped 10% to $718 million from $797 million last year.

Media networks, which includes linear cable channels, digital multicast networks, and free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels, increased revenue almost 10% to $775 million from $707 million.

Top-selling home entertainment title in the quarter was 28 Years Later, which was released across digital retail channels on July 29, 2025, and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, Blu-ray and DVD on Sept. 23.
