Charlize Theron reignited the Timothee Chalamet backlash after a new interview revived his February remarks on ballet and opera. The Oscar winner did not just disagree. She framed his comments as careless toward two art forms she believed still needed strong public support. Moreover, the comment picked up attention because it linked Theron’s own ballet background to Chalamet’s earlier comments. It also gave the controversy a sharper personal edge. The “Hancock” actor even joked that she hoped to run into him one day after hearing his name come up.

The latest swipe came from a New York Times interview with Charlize Theron. While discussing ballet, she said it was “probably one of the hardest things” she had ever done. When the interviewer replied, “Sorry, Timothee Chalamet,” Theron answered, “Oh, boy, I hope I run into him one day.” She then called his earlier remarks “a very reckless comment.” She said ballet and opera were “two art forms” that people needed “to lift up constantly.”

Meanwhile, the “Monster” star backed that up with her own experience. In the same interview, Theron said dancers were “superheroes.” She said they pushed their bodies in “complete silence.” Then she drew a contrast with the future of screen acting. “In 10 years, A.I. is going to be able to do Timothee’s job,” she said, “but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live.” She added, “We shouldn’t [expletive] on other art forms.” That made the criticism broader than one actor.

The dispute started in February, when the “Dune” star said he did not want to work in ballet or opera, describing them as forms people no longer cared about. He later joked, “I just lost 14 cents in viewership.” Those comments drew quick pushback. Page Six said Misty Copeland argued he should not compare his craft to other art forms. Steven Spielberg also defended ballet and opera at SXSW 2026, saying, “We want that to be sustained.”

As of now, Chalamet has not publicly responded to Theron’s latest criticism.
