Australian hardcore band SPEED have found themselves $80,000 AUD (roughly $52,000 USD) richer after being awarded the New South Wales Music Prize. That government-led initiative aims to help support local musicians financially, with SPEED winning the top award for having an album that made a “significant impact” in their latest outing, “ONLY ONE MODE“. Other finalists for that award included RÜFÜS DU SOL, Shady Nasty and more.
Ahead of accepting the award at the Museum Of Contemporary Art in Sydney, Australia tonight, November 24th, the band in parted stated, “Respectfully, our culture has never been a game nor a competition. But we are honoured to receive this recognition and see this as acknowledgment of the values cultivated by the passionate souls around us.”
The group also shouted out their fans and the scene and various individuals that helped foster the community SPEED have thrived in:
“In 2025, we have a whole new generation of amazing kids all over the country making Sydney and Australian hardcore the sickest it’s ever been. With that being said, this award belongs to them – the people around us who make it what it is – and we’ll take some time to think about the best way we can pay that forward to keep growing this the right way.”
