Spencer Lofranco, who played John Gotti Jr. in Gotti, died on Tuesday, November 18. He was 33.
The actor’s brother, Santino, confirmed his death via Instagram on Thursday, November 20.
“To the legend @roccowinning. My brother,” Santino captioned a carousel of photos. “You lived a life only some could dream of. You changed people lives, and now you are with God. I will always love you and miss you Bear. RIP. October 18, 1992 – November 18, 2025.”
Fans and friends sent their condolences in the comments section.
“Oh man, I’m so sorry my friend. My heart goes out to you and your family. ❤️,” one user wrote.
Another person commented, “Bear 🐻 will always love & miss you. Sorry for your loss Sans. Sending ur fam so much love.”
“I’m so sorry for you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you 🙏😢,” a third fan added.
Lofranco’s death is reportedly being investigated in British Columbia, Canada, according to TMZ. The cause has not yet been determined.
Lofranco’s most recent role was Gotti in 2018, in which he costarred with John Travolta, who played John Gotti Sr. The film also starred the late Kelly Preston.

In addition to Gotti, Lofranco is known for his debut role as Conrad Hartman in the 2013 romantic comedy At Middleton and the lead role of James Burn in the 2014 crime drama Jamesy Boy. Lofranco also starred in Angelina Jolie’s 2014 war drama, Unbroken, and the 2015 short Home. His other credits include 2015’s Dixieland and 2016’s King Cobra.
“I decided I wanted to be an actor when I was 17,” Lofranco told Interview magazine in 2014. “I was always a funny guy, always trying to make people laugh and always the center of attention. I guess I was being an actor my whole life. I finally realized what I was doing and it was just getting me in trouble. I went to summer acting classes. Then I did a year [of] conservatory at New York Film Academy and then that’s when I got Jamesy Boy.”
Lofranco said getting to work with Jolie, 50, on Unbroken was difficult to wrap his head around.
“Growing up, Angelina Jolie was my dream girl. Now I’m going to shoot a movie with her. It’s crazy,” he said while laughing. “I tell people and they’re like, ‘Yeah… OK.’ They don’t even believe me.”

He continued, “I met these girls the other day, and they were like, ‘You’re not an actor,’ and I’m like, ‘OK …’ Then they start looking you up and all that stuff. It’s something I’ve got to get used to, I guess. Sometimes I’ll say I’m an artist, or I’m a lawyer, or I’m in school for engineering, because in L.A., everyone’s an ‘actor.’”
Lofranco also shared what he would do if he weren’t an actor, telling the outlet, “I would probably move to Africa and help support the effort over there; help the kids that are in need and do my best to give my love to the unfortunate.”
As for his plans for the future, Lofranco hoped to do “real-life, candid films.”
“I don’t want to be thrown into anything that could jeopardize my career,” he explained. “I want to be wise about what I choose. Actors whose choices I’ve liked are Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio, River Phoenix.”
