Spencer Prat, best known for his role on The Hills, has reportedly taken an early lead over Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in one key area of the upcoming mayoral race: fundraising.
Pratt, 45, has raised nearly $540,000 since announcing his candidacy for LA mayor in January. That total places the Hollywood actor ahead of Bass, 72, who has raised just under $495,000 in the same period.
Among his supporters are Doug Reinhardt, also known for The Hills and former partner of Lauren Conrad, producer Jeff Jenkins, known for work on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and singer and actress Katharine McPhee.
Pratt’s entry into the race has been shaped in part by his criticism of how city and state leadership handled the aftermath of the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. He has been openly critical of Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom, particularly in relation to emergency response and accountability following the disaster.
He has also accused Bass of mishandling official documentation connected to the crisis, stating that an action report surrounding the fires was “altered” to “take away her negligence from it.” Bass denied the accusation.
Pratt has positioned his campaign around concerns about public safety and city management. While he has acknowledged that he did not initially intend to run for office, he has described the decision as necessary given his perspective on current leadership.
Spencer said he feels he has “no choice” seeing how the city is being run.
He has also outlined personal motivations behind his campaign, including a desire for stability for his family.
Pratt said he hopes to “make the city safe again,” and wants to see his children grow up in Los Angeles, the same way he did.
Bass, a longtime political figure and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has not publicly responded in detail to Pratt’s fundraising claims beyond her earlier denial regarding his accusations about the wildfire report.
