The Royal Mint is celebrating the Spice Girls‘ 30th anniversary by launching an official commemorative coin. Find all the details below.
The iconic girl band, whose first single ‘Wannabe’ was released in 1996, have joined the Royal Mint’s Music Legends Hall Of Fame.
A new £5 coin design has been announced to mark the three-decade milestone, featuring silhouettes of all five members alongside their authentic autographs. Fans can collect all five unique packaging designs, with the coin now on sale here.
The Spice Girls have officially approved the striking new collectable product, which was created by artist Ffion Rees (Nee Gwillim). Each of the five packaging designs is strictly limited to 15,000 coins worldwide.
In a statement, the girl group said: “It’s a huge honour for us to be celebrated by The Royal Mint and follow in the footsteps of some true music icons.
“2026 marks a special year for us as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our debut single and album. We could never have imagined that we would be recognised in this way – the first female group to be given their very own coin…what a moment for Girl Power!”
A description reads: “In partnership with Bravado, Universal Music Group’s brand management and merchandise division, The Royal Mint worked closely with the band to carefully curate a design that celebrates the incredible legacy of The Spice Girls.
“This official tribute allows fans to own a piece of pop history, celebrating a group whose message of female empowerment and unforgettable fashion proved that Girl Power could conquer the world.”
Lucy Mackenzie, Director of Digital and Product Concept at The Royal Mint, explained: “The Spice Girls didn’t just dominate pop music, they defined the 90s. Now, for the first time, fans and collectors everywhere can own a piece of that legacy.
“The unique packaging celebrating each Spice Girl makes it one of our most collectable Music Legends releases. Girl Power is back!”
She added: “We’re anticipating huge demand from devoted fans and collectors from across the world looking to spice up their coin collection or add to their existing collection of merchandise.”
Fans can purchase the collectable from £18.50, for the ‘Brilliant Uncirculated’ edition. The coin’s obverse design features the official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings. It is also available in Gold Proof, Silver Proof, and as limited-edition prints.
Spice Girls follow the likes of David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Queen, Elton John and George Michael in being honoured with a Royal Mint coin.
In other news, Mel C has teased a potential live return for the Spice Girls featuring all five members. “If you remember, looking back to 2019 when we did our stadium tour, Victoria [Beckham] wasn’t with us,” she said. “So, she has to have that experience.”
The last time all five members performed together publicly was at the London Olympics’ closing ceremony in 2012.
In 2024, however, Mel C, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Beckham gave a surprise performance of ‘Stop’ at Posh’s 50th birthday party.
Beckham then fuelled speculation of a full reunion last autumn when she attended one of Oasis’ Live ’25 concerts at London’s Wembley Stadium – where Spice Girls had played three huge dates in 2019. She shared a photo from the Oasis gig, writing “Tempting”, while tagging her former bandmates in the post.
Towards the end of last year, Mel C said she remained “optimistic” about a tour to coincide with the Spice Girls’ 30th anniversary. The singer explained earlier in 2025 that she felt “it’s time” for another run of shows.
Later, Mel B hinted that the Spice Girls could be hitting the road once again in 2026. “I’m always game,” she said. “Always.”
Last March, Halliwell-Horner teased that “there will be something” with Beckham in the fold in the future: “My hope is we come back together as a collective. It’s more respectful to come as one.” She also revealed that all five members shared a group chat.
In 2022, Beckham dashed hopes when she said she “couldn’t commit” to a full live tour because of her work in fashion and beauty. But her comments about being “tempted” to return to the stage last year sparked fresh rumours among fans.
